Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about training with us.

01

Getting started

Can I try before I join?

Yes, and we'd always rather you did. You can have a free week's trial of the gym, or two free taster personal training sessions, so you get a proper feel for the place and the coaching before you commit to anything. Get in touch and we'll get you booked in.

Where are you?

We're at Hamble Point Marina in Hamble, just outside Southampton, and we work with people from Hamble, Bursledon, Netley, Sholing and right across Southampton.

What are your opening hours?

Monday to Thursday 6am to 9pm, Friday 6am to 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 12pm.

02

Gym membership

How much is gym membership?

Off peak membership starts from £39 a month, but honestly we'd much rather you came in, had a look round and tried a week for free first, because a price on its own doesn't tell you what it's actually like to train here.

How young can someone start training at the gym?

For supervised training it's usually from around 14, depending on the young athlete's experience and maturity. Unsupervised training is generally from 18, and any exceptions are only agreed in advance with a coach and a parent or guardian.

03

Personal training

How much does personal training cost?

Our sessions generally range from £18 to £35, and you can buy them in blocks or set up a monthly plan, whichever suits you. Plenty of places charge £50 or more a session, but we'd always rather you tried your two free taster sessions first so you know it's right for you.

What is semi private personal training?

It's how most of our personal training works. You get the same level of professional coaching you'd expect from one to one, from highly experienced coaches, but because you're training alongside a small number of others it costs a lot less.

Do you offer one to one sessions?

Yes, usually with one of our strength and conditioning therapists, for anyone who needs a more tailored or rehab focused approach.

04

Group training

How many group sessions are there each week?

We run two strength sessions and three conditioning sessions a week. Most people do the two strength sessions and pick the conditioning session that suits them, or if they're brave enough, they do all three.

05

Online coaching

How does online coaching work?

Your programme lives in the Pinnacle Performance app, which shows you exactly what to do with videos and clear descriptions for every exercise, plus a history of everything you've done before. We make it as simple as possible to understand, and there's always a coach behind it when you need one.

How much is online coaching?

Online coaching is £79 a month, and right now founding members can join for £59 a month.

Can I speak to my coach?

Any time, as long as they're not having a nice snooze or training themselves. Pinnacle Pete, our in app helper, understands your training and can answer most questions straight away, and if you still need a hand you can message your coach directly in the app.

How do you keep track of how I'm getting on?

After each session you can complete a performance check in, which gives you feedback straight away. Your coaches see it too, and the system flags anything they need to reach out to you about. You can also log your habits, so we get the full picture, not just what happens in the gym.

How do you check my technique if you can't see me?

Just film your lift and send the video to your coach through the app, and we'll give you feedback. Pinnacle Pete is there any time for quick questions too.

Do I need a gym?

No. If you train in a gym, send us photos of the equipment and we'll build your programme around exactly what you've got. If you're at home, we have equipment free home programmes too.

Is there a contract?

No, it's rolling month to month and you can cancel any time. We don't want to keep people that are not happy with their training.

Is nutrition included?

It's not included, but we work with an in house nutritionist who can help, and all our coaches have really good knowledge and can give you advice along the way.

Do you coach athletes for specific sports?

Yes. We've worked with professional, Olympic and recreational athletes across sailing, golf, football, equestrian and more, and online coaching lets them follow structured, sport specific programmes and stay in touch with their coach when they're away from the gym.

06

Injuries and sports therapy

If I'm injured, should I still train?

Usually yes, but what you do in the session will change. We'll adapt your training around the injury and, where it helps, work alongside our on site sports therapist so you keep moving forward instead of stopping altogether.

Do you have a sports therapist on site?

Yes. Most injury and rehab work is overseen or supported by our sports therapist, so treatment and training are linked together rather than kept separate.

Still got a question?

We'd love to hear from you.
